Troubleshooting availability in Microsoft Outlook

Outlook has a number of different availability configurations. This setting can be found when creating an event on your calendar, or by editing the event directly in your calendar.

Free/Busy states of Outlook Calendar events

  • FREE: This will not block your availability. Set an event in  your calendar to Free if you  are using Custom Availability, or to indicate specific events on your calendar without having those events block your availability.
  • WORKING ELSEWHERE: This status will be treated as Busy time and will block your availability.
  • TENTATIVE: This status will be treated as Busy time and will block your availability.
  • BUSY: This status will be treated as Busy time and will block your availability.
  • AWAY:This status will be treated as Busy time and will block your availability.

All-day events in Outlook Calendar are set to Free by default. Regular events are set to Busy by default.
