Our commitment to accessibility

We’re constantly working to make YouCanBook.me as accessible and usable as possible. While we still have a long way to go, we’re very aware of the importance of providing all of our users equal access to our platform. 

Right now our focus is on client-facing booking pages, but we plan to extend this drive for better accessibility across our entire product.

Accessibility Statement

In February 2021, our YouCanBook.Me booking pages on the new experience conformed with the Web Content Accessibility Guideline 2.0 at Level AA. 

We have chosen the WCAG 2.0 guidelines because they are widely accepted and have been developed by experts through intense research and a lengthy detailed process. They cover a wide range of recommendations for making web content more accessible.

The WCAG 2.0 guidelines were developed by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the Worldwide Web Consortium, or W3C. The W3C is the leading international standards organization for the web.

Who benefits from WCAG 2.0 compliance?

The standards laid out in WCAG 2.0 are intended to make web pages accessible to and usable for users with a wide range of physical and cognitive disabilities. Visual accommodations are designed to help blind users, but also those with low or impaired vision, photosensitivity, color deficit or distorted color perception. Audio considerations are geared toward users with impaired hearing or total hearing loss. Navigation accommodations are designed to help users with paralysis, weakness or limited mobility. Other standards are meant to assist users with cognitive impairment or limited reading abilities.

How do YouCanBookMe's booking pages comply with WCAG 2.0 Level AA?

Our team of designers and engineers have followed 3 principles underpinning accessible web standards:

• Visual Accommodations
• Cognitive and Mobility Accommodations
• Standardization and Predictability

Visual Accommodations

Our booking pages are consumable by users regardless of any limitation of their visual abilities. They also accommodate users with full or partial vision loss by providing text-based alternative content for all non-text content on the page. This alternate text content is readable by text-to-speech software so that the page may be fully understood by a user who is not able to see the images.

Cognitive and Mobility Accommodations

Our booking pages use easily understood methods of navigation, as well as multiple options for navigating around and between pages. All navigation is possible using only a keyboard, and none of the navigation requires that a link or button be clicked within a limited period of time.

Standardization and Predictability

Our booking pages render in a predictable manner regardless of the technology used to process and display them. In terms of web design, this means our pages are designed so that they display and operate in a way that conforms to expected standards and produces predictable results. In terms of development, it means that we use technology compatible across all standard hardware and software platforms likely to be used to display the pages.

VPAT

Our VPAT has been updated to reflect our WGAG 2.0 Level AA compliance. You can download a copy of our Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) below.
